Get three things settled before move day: your loading entrance, a legal place for the truck, and the timing on your block. Then give helpers their own arrival plan. Here’s how to put it together.
Check the date against the neighborhood
Start with your building’s available moving hours. Then check the Deep Ellum Foundation’s live music and events page and the schedules of venues near your entrance. The district’s calendar includes community events as well as entertainment; an open morning on your calendar still needs a block-level check.
Ask management about known access conflicts on your date and recheck shortly before the move. If you have a choice of windows, compare them before committing. Confirm any street closures separately through current official notices.
For reusable-crate plans, see Geaux Crates’ Dallas expansion page. Dallas–Fort Worth service is planned, with timing and availability still to be confirmed.
Give the truck and helpers separate plans
Ask your property manager to identify the approved truck entrance and unloading area. Confirm the approach, clearance, and any reservation or paperwork requirements with both the building and your mover. Send a photo of the correct door along with the street address.
For helpers arriving by car, the Foundation’s transportation guide identifies The Stack at 2700 Commerce Street with an entrance on Henry Street, and The Epic at 2550 Pacific Avenue with an entrance on Pacific Avenue. Check the operator’s current terms, rates, and clearance before choosing either.
Use these options to research passenger-car parking. Have the mover confirm truck access and a legal loading plan separately, and keep the unloading area available for the crew handling the load.
Make a one-page access card
Walk the block before packing the last boxes. This is our practical planning checklist; your building and posted street rules determine what is allowed.
- Arrival: Record the approved approach, entrance pin, truck dimensions, and the person who will meet the driver. Check the route using the actual entrance, especially if it sits around the corner from the mailing address.
- Loading: Photograph the relevant signs. Record the approved unloading spot, allowed time window, and whom to contact if it is occupied. Resolve an unclear curb arrangement before the truck arrives.
- Carry path: Walk from the unloading spot to your door. Note crossings, steps, ramps, door widths, thresholds, and any elevator booking. Measure large furniture against the tightest points.
- Staging: Agree where each load can wait without obstructing pedestrians, neighboring businesses, exits, or the building’s shared areas.
- Backup: Write down the manager’s number and a legal alternative waiting location confirmed with the mover. Set a check-in time before the crew reaches the block.
Send the same card to everyone involved. Keep one person responsible for communicating changes so the driver does not get three different directions.
Read the curb and pickup signs again
Deep Ellum’s transport guide notes metered spaces along Elm, Main, Commerce, Canton, and Indiana streets. Check the meter and signs at the exact space for current hours, payment, and limits. Avoid relying on an old screenshot or someone else’s previous move.
Dallas’s parking-enforcement guidance covers expired meters, prohibited stopping, and sidewalk obstruction. Paying for a space does not settle whether your particular loading arrangement is allowed; check the applicable restrictions.
The Foundation also notes that rideshare apps may direct passengers to designated pickup locations during busy evenings or major events. A helper’s return pickup may therefore be a short walk away. Recheck the app’s pin when it is time to leave. Current district transportation guidance.
Use the two Green Line stations deliberately
For helpers who can arrive without a car, compare the walk from both nearby stations. DART lists Deep Ellum Station at 450 N. Good-Latimer Expressway, at Gaston Avenue, and Baylor University Medical Center Station at 2900 Junius Street, at Hall Street. Both are on the Green Line.
Choose the station based on your actual meeting point and your helper’s access needs. Check current service alerts and the walking route. Send an exact building entrance or agreed meeting pin rather than the neighborhood name alone.
Pack for a clear path into the new place
Label each crate or box by destination room. If your home has an open layout, name a few receiving areas in advance, such as kitchen, sleeping area, and desk. Put those names on the loads so helpers can place things without stopping to ask.
Keep the first-night bag and valuables with you. Protect fragile items, keep loads manageable, and follow your equipment’s limits. Before the crew leaves, check the full route for loose supplies and anything left at the curb. Keep empty packing materials in the place your building approves while you unpack.
