Geaux Crates

Two faceless adults holding actual reusable moving crates, with “Lighten the load” and the Geaux Crates logo.

The cheapest crate is the one you never pack. Before you order your package size, do the purge — donate the good stuff, sell the valuable stuff, toss the rest. Here's the Houston rundown.

The purge math

Our packages step up in tens: 10 crates at $139 first-week rental plus a $4.15 small-order fee, 20 at $169, 30 at $199, 40 at $225, 50 at $249, 60 at $275, and so on up to 100. Every ten crates you purge is a smaller package. Dropping from 70 crates to 60 saves $24 on week one; dropping from 70 to 50 crates saves $50 in first-week rental charges — and that's before the time you save not packing, carrying, and unpacking stuff you didn't want anyway.

Purge first, then count crates with our room-by-room guide. Ordering after the purge is how you avoid paying to move things straight to the donation pile at the other end.

Donate: the big three

Goodwill Houston is one option to check for donations. Before loading the car, confirm the specific location's current hours, accepted items, and drop-off instructions.

The Salvation Army is another option to check for usable household items. Confirm local acceptance, drop-off or pickup arrangements, and whether unloading assistance is available before you go.

Houston Furniture Bank may be worth contacting about furniture donations. Check the current acceptance list and pickup options before moving week, and confirm any conditions or fees for the specific items you want to donate.

For all three, describe the item and its condition accurately and confirm acceptance first. Follow appropriate local disposal guidance for anything that cannot be donated; not every rejected item belongs in ordinary trash.

Sell: turn clutter into moving money

Facebook Marketplace is Houston's garage sale. Furniture, appliances, bikes, kids' gear — list it two to three weeks before the move, price it to move (literally), and meet buyers in a public place or have someone home with you.

OfferUp works the same way with a slightly different crowd. Cross-list the big-ticket items on both.

Demand varies by item, condition, price, and timing. Use accurate photos and descriptions, compare similar listings, and leave time for items that do not sell.

The timeline

Purge done? Now size the move for what's actually going: one-week packages from $143.15 ($139 rental plus a $4.15 small-order fee for 10 crates), before applicable distance charges, tax, and optional supplies, with delivery and pickup included, or call or text (888) 615-2699 and we'll help you pick the right size.

Pack. Move. Repeat. — with less stuff than you started with.
