Hot weather can complicate a Houston move. Check the current forecast and local advisories, review your belongings' storage and transport requirements, and allow room in the plan for changing conditions.
1. Identify items with special handling requirements
Check the relevant product instructions and your mover's restrictions for items such as:
- Candles and wax-based items
- Vinyl records
- Aerosols, including spray paint, sunscreen, and cleaning products
- Electronics and batteries
- Medications and vitamins — follow the label's storage instructions and ask a pharmacist if transport requirements are unclear
- Artwork and photographs — check care and transport guidance for the particular materials
- Plants — check their transport needs and your mover's rules
2. Plan around current conditions
Discuss the day's forecast, access windows, and any weather-related changes with your moving team. A fixed start time does not establish that conditions will be suitable for the work.
3. Use current heat-safety guidance
Use current official public-health and workplace guidance when planning physical work in hot weather. Individual needs vary; this packing guide does not set hydration amounts or provide medical advice.
4. Plan transport for temperature-sensitive belongings
Follow each item's storage and transport instructions. Ask the mover whether the planned conditions meet those requirements and what arrangements are needed if they do not. A closed crate or an air-conditioned car does not by itself establish suitable transport.
5. Plan to keep containers and contents dry
Do not treat a moving crate as a waterproof enclosure. Keep containers and belongings out of rain and standing water, check their condition, and follow the manufacturer's handling instructions. A plastic container does not establish protection for its contents in wet conditions.
6. Check furniture care requirements
Review the furniture maker's care and transport instructions before choosing covers or wrapping. Ask your mover how delicate finishes and materials will be handled under the expected conditions.
7. Have a storm contingency (June–November)
Hurricane season overlaps peak moving season. Watch the forecast the week of your move. If a named storm is heading for the Gulf, call us at (888) 615-2699 as early as possible — reschedules are free with 72+ hours' notice, and we'd much rather shift your date than watch your move day become a weather event.
The summer move-day kit
Keep personal essentials and contact information accessible. Make a separate plan for belongings with special storage or transport requirements rather than assuming that everything else can travel in the truck.
Weather can change. Check conditions again near moving day and adjust the plan with your moving team when needed.
