Hurricane season is a reason to keep weather in your moving plan. Review official updates as your dates approach, and make room for changes if conditions affect travel, access, or safe handling.
Keep official weather updates in your plan
Check National Hurricane Center and local official weather updates in the lead-up to your move. Forecasts can change, and no outlook guarantees a fixed amount of advance notice.
If weather may affect your move: call us early at (888) 615-2699. Reschedules are free with 72+ hours' notice, and we'd much rather shift a delivery than watch anyone move in a tropical storm.
Keep a flex day in the plan
If your lease or closing allows flexibility, leave room to adjust moving dates. A buffer may help, but it cannot guarantee that a storm disruption will fit into a single extra day.
No moving container should be treated as a promise that belongings will stay dry in a storm. Protect contents from water, check container instructions, and do not rely on an attached lid as waterproofing. Follow official instructions if weather makes the move unsafe.
Protect the humidity-sensitive stuff
Check the care instructions for paper, books, photographs, documents, wood, leather, and other moisture-sensitive belongings. Choose appropriate packing and storage conditions, and keep contents protected from water. A plastic crate or an added bag does not guarantee protection.
For electronics, follow the manufacturer's packing, transport, and temperature guidance. Choose a suitable transport plan rather than assuming a car or truck is always appropriate.
Know your zones (before you need to)
Check the official emergency information for both moving addresses before moving week, including any relevant evacuation guidance. Follow local officials' instructions if conditions change; moving plans can wait when authorities advise otherwise.
Plan for heat as well as rain
Heat may also affect your move and your belongings. Check current official heat guidance and each item's care requirements, and adapt or postpone work when necessary. Our guide to moving in Houston heat covers planning considerations without a one-size-fits-all schedule.
Plan around current conditions and be prepared to change the move if needed. No container makes severe weather safe. Our packages run 10 to 100 crates with delivery and pickup included across Greater Houston — see your options or call or text (888) 615-2699.
Pack. Move. Repeat. — when conditions allow.
