West Campus moving checklist
Plan your West Campus move: settle the roommate handoff, check building access and sort out parking before the first crate leaves the room.

Put the handoff on paper before you start packing. One shared plan beats four people assuming someone else booked the elevator.

Start with the lease, then the loading plan.

West Campus sits next to UT Austin, but an off-campus apartment has its own move-in instructions. The UT Austin off-campus housing resource includes roommate, sublease and renter resources. Use it for that side of the move; get the actual key-release and loading instructions from your property manager.

Make a short handoff note with the old lease's exit time, the new place's key-collection time and the person allowed to receive keys. If those times leave a gap, settle where your things can go before move day. A front desk, hallway or roommate's car is not a confirmed storage plan.

Check which parking rules apply to your exact stop.

The City of Austin's parking page lists West Campus and North Campus among its metered areas and makes a separate point: the city does not manage parking on the UT campus. A campus garage, city street and private apartment garage can have different instructions.

Before choosing a vehicle, ask the building where unloading is allowed and what clearance its entrance has. Send that entrance to your driver, not just the apartment's mailing address. Keep a backup legal parking option for helpers who are staying after unloading. Read the signs on arrival; a useful map does not reserve a space.

Don't carry last year's parking plan into this move.

Austin's Residential Permit Parking program has an address lookup for participating streets. Its Orange area around UT follows a July 31 permit-expiration cycle. If your move involves one of those blocks, check the current address and permit status rather than relying on a previous tenant's arrangement.

Confirm what the resident, helper and moving vehicle each need. A visitor pass and permission to use a loading area are separate questions. Ask the city or property manager about the arrangement that applies to your vehicle; don't improvise a reserved spot with household chairs.

Give shared stuff an owner.

A roommate move needs two labels: where an item goes and who is responsible for it. Mark each crate with a room, owner and a short contents note. Put the same room names on a shared note so “bedroom two” does not mean different things to different people.

For the kitchen, decide what is shared before packing it. Pick one person to track pans, small appliances and cleaning supplies. Photograph the contents of a shared crate before closing it if that helps everyone keep count.

Keep keys, lease paperwork, medication and other essentials with you. Pack one clearly marked first-night bag so towels, chargers and clean clothes do not disappear into the kitchen stack.

Use this West Campus handoff sheet.

Copy these prompts into your roommate chat and fill them in together:

Do a final walkthrough with one person checking the note and another checking the rooms. Keep doorways and hallways clear throughout the move. Your packing system should make the building easier to navigate, not leave a new obstacle course.

Plan the last trip, too.

Before everyone leaves for work, class or home, agree who handles the remaining cleaning and any equipment return. Empty crates still need an agreed collection point and someone responsible for the handoff. If you rent equipment from any provider, confirm its actual return arrangement before booking.
